Layered Dog Cookie Jar Mix
Ingredients:
* 1 cup unbleached or whole wheat flour
* 1 cup of oatmeal, blended into flour
* ½ cup cornmeal
* 2 tsp beef or chicken bouillon granules
* 1 tsp garlic powder
* 1 cup skim milk powder
* ½ cup grated parmesan cheese (I used the grated parmesan that is commercially made to sprinkle on pasta)
* ¼ cup (approximately) of flour, or enough to fill a one quart jar
Layer ingredients, in the order given, in a one quart jar, packing each layer firmly with the back of a spoon.
Print or write instructions on a tag,…..add a little bone or doggie cookie cutter for a special touch!
Preheat oven to 250° Fahrenheit.
Empty jar mix into a bowl. Stir together two eggs and 1 cup of hot water and add to mix. Combine with a fork until a stiff dough forms. Add a little flour or water if dough is too sticky or too dry to work.
Roll out dough on floured board to ½ inch thickness. Dip cookie cutters in flour before cutting out each cookie.
Place cookies close together on a baking sheet as they will not spread while baking. Bake for about 90 minutes, or until cookies are dry and hard, turning pan around at half time to ensure even cooking. You can turn off the heat, but leave the cookies in the oven to dry out without further cooking if necessary. Dog cookies are usually baked until they are hard and crunchy. Let cool completely before storing in an airtight jar.

For years now, I’ve been saying that I wish Catalina Marketing would help us out by releasing the information on all the current catalinas running. I mean, if you’re a marketing company and your job is to market catalinas, would making the details of those catalinas more accessible to the general public be a good thing? I certainly think so!
At any rate, Catalina Marketing just started a new site called CouponNetwork.com. They offer a number of printable coupons as well as details on “Buy and Save” offers at your local store. It appears to me like they may just be starting to release the catalina details to the general public (as it looks like that’s the the “Buy and Save” offer details are — apparently, Catalina Marketing does not call their offers “catalinas”!)
When I looked up the offers in my area, there was only one offer showing up and I’m thinking there should be more catalinas than that running right now.

NeedyMeds.org is a website that pulls together information about lower cost options for medical care and prescriptions. It is a great resource for the uninsured, underinsured and those that simply cannot pay for routine medical care or medications. You can find a lot of information on the site, but the two things I found most valuable are the clinic search and drug search.
Low-Cost or Free Medical Clinics
Thousands of clinics nationwide provide routine medical care free or on a sliding fee scale based on your ability to pay. Locating a clinic near you is easy when you use NeedyMeds clinic search.
You can search for all clinics within a certain distance of your zip code or use the map to find all clinics in your state. Basic contact information a very summarized description of their payment requirements are listed. You’ll contact the clinic to schedule an appointment and can confirm the financial component in that call as well.
For the most part these are family practice-type clinics that can serve most any basic need, although I did see at least one dentist in my area. If you have a specialized medical condition, I’d recommend contacting the clinic anyway and discussing whether it is a fit for you or not.
What to Expect At a Reduced-Fee Clinic
Friends of mine have used some of the free clinics in my area. They have all appreciated the valuable service and felt like they received quality medical attention. Ask any parent about getting their kids ready to go back to school and they’ll tell you it can be a costly and time-consuming ordeal. In order to make the process easier, Remington College holds an annual event called Cuts for Kids. All our campuses with Cosmetology programs offer complimentary hair cuts for children, 17 and under before they head back to school. We think every kid deserves to look and feel their best as they start a new school year, and it’s another way for us to give back to our local communities. We also offer discount salon services for adults during our Cuts for Kids event.

Those age 17 and under can ride Metro Bus for free this summer.
The Metro Bus U-Go Free Summer Youth Pass is meant to help kids have affordable summer transportation. Last year 3,000 passes were distributed and 60,510 trips were taken.
The pass is good seven days a week on any fixed-route bus from June 1 to Aug. 31. Passes can be picked up by a parent or guardian at the Metro Bus Transit Center, 510 First St. S in St. Cloud.

A fun, free celebration of springtime birds, The upcoming Urban Birding Festival -- May 13-16 – is a fun, free celebration of spring birds and and birding. Everyone, from brand-new to experienced birders, is invited to take part in all or part of this free four-day event. No registration is required. Just show up at the events you wish to attend.
The festival, with St. Paul Audubon a key sponsor, features free daytime and evening bird walks, plus Saturday’s series of events at Fridley’s Springbrook Nature Center, “Birding Central” for the festival. The only event with a fee is Birding Central’s catered lunch on May 15. The festival wraps up on Sunday, May 16, with hikes through the seldom open Arden Hills Army Training Site. All walks during the festival are led by experienced bird watchers, many of them Audubon members.

SUBWAY: Subway restaurants want to give taxpayers a reason to look forward to the typically dreaded April 15 by offering everyone who walks into a Subway on tax day a free cookie.
IHOP: Expanding on the tax deduction parents get for kids, the restaurant chain is offering free dinner for one child age 12 or younger with each adult meal purchased 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. all month long.
